The Yellow Umbrella is the gift shop in the “glass room”, adjoining Giddens Hall at the Carnegie Community Arts Center. Featuring jewelry, pottery, art prints and originals, as well as woodworking and ironwork – all by Kentucky artists – The Yellow Umbrella is the place to purchase that perfect gift for the person who loves all things artistic. A wide range of artistic pieces, reflecting a wide range of prices, allows shoppers affordable choices on handcrafted art.
The Yellow Umbrella was originally run by the Sheltowee Artisans. They were founded in 1994, with the vision to build a friendly arts community in Somerset, Ky. They originally opened the gift shop in the basement of the Carnegie in 2008, which today is called “the Cellar.” In 2013, the Yellow Umbrella moved to Carnegie’s main floor and today is operated by Carnegie volunteers, Kathy Queen, Katheryn Ragle, Leslie Copeland and Ellen Gripp.
Still maintaining the tradition of excellence the Sheltowee Artisans began, the Yellow Umbrella features pottery, ironworks, original art and art prints, woven rugs and delightful, handcrafted jewelry. Visitors will also see woodworking, locally made soaps and lotions, local published author's books as well as a complete array of other beautifully designed art pieces.
All the art is for sale and everything is handmade and carefully crafted with passionate art lovers in mind. Check out www.facebook.com/The Yellow Umbrella Gift & Bookstore for more photos and information.
